Searle's Pattern Viscometer is a type of rotational viscometer commonly used to measure the viscosity of liquids, especially in industrial and research applications. It operates on the principle of measuring the torque required to rotate a spindle (inner cylinder) immersed in a fluid, while the outer cylinder remains stationary.

The inner cylinder is suspended by a torsion wire and immersed in the fluid sample. As the spindle is rotated, the resistance offered by the fluid (viscosity) causes a twist in the torsion wire. This twist is proportional to the torque needed to rotate the spindle, which can then be used to calculate the viscosity of the liquid.
