Poiseuille’S Viscosity Apparatus

Poiseuille's law is used to measure the viscosity of liquids by observing the flow through a capillary tube under a known pressure difference.

Call to order

Poiseuille's law is used to measure the viscosity of liquids by observing the flow through a capillary tube under a known pressure difference. This apparatus helps in determining the resistance the liquid experiences while flowing through the tube, and from this, the viscosity can be calculated.

Consist of : ·

Capillary Tube: The uniform bore of Borosilicate glass is used, even a slight deviation could significantly alter the results.

Constant-Level Tank: The liquid level is kept constant by the use of a three-limbed setup, which helps to precisely control the flow of liquid through the system.

Manometer: The manometer allows for the measurement of pressure differences at both ends of the capillary tube. The greater the pressure difference, the faster the liquid flows. The scale on the manometer tubes helps to quantify this difference accurately, which is crucial for the viscosity calculation.
