LAW OF Moments Apparatus

A Law of Moments Apparatus is a fundamental piece of engineering training equipment used to demonstrate and verify the principle of moments in physics. The apparatus typically features a balanced aluminium disc rotating about its axis with a series of calibrated holes. This disc is clamped on a tripod stand in vertical plane. These allow users to strategically place weights at specific distances from the pivot point.

The setup includes scale pans suspended from the apparatus, enabling precise application of known weights at measured positions. A graduated scale, in the form of a glass mirror scale, is used as a visual reference to accurately measure the distance from the pivot where the force is applied.

When the clockwise moments equal the anticlockwise moments, the system is in equilibrium, thereby validating the law of moments.
